Course Description
​

This training course is based on the national unit of competency HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, which has replaced the previous HLTAID001 course code. By completing this course with Elite Learning Academy, you can be assured that you are obtaining the most current CPR certification available.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) involves the combination of rescue breaths and external cardiac compressions. The course materials provide the skills and knowledge necessary to perform CPR in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

The Provide CPR course is the standard CPR qualification for workplace first aiders across Australia. This unit is applicable to anyone required to administer CPR in various settings, including community and workplace environments such as NDIS, childcare centers, family daycare, and more.

Entry Requirements

​

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.

  • Complete the enrolment form and provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

  • Successfully completed the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) test.

  • Have the physical and mental capacity to perform at least 2 minutes of CPR on a manikin on the floor.

Training Overview
​
  • CPR Techniques and Equipment: Learn CPR methods and how to use manikins and AEDs.

  • Practical Demonstrations and Risk Management: Participate in hands-on CPR practice and risk management exercises.

  • Incident Reporting and Review: Communicate incident details, follow procedures, maintain privacy, recognize psychological impacts, and contribute to response reviews.

  • Assessment and Certification: Complete CPR competence assessments and understand certification and refresher requirements.

Course Outcome
​

Respond to an Emergency Situation:

  • Recognize and assess the emergency.

  • Ensure the safety of yourself, bystanders, and the casualty.

  • Evaluate the casualty's condition and determine if CPR is needed.

  • Contact emergency services for assistance.

 

Perform CPR Procedures:

  • Administer CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines.

  • Treat the casualty with respect and dignity.

  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) as per manufacturer instructions.

 

Communicate Incident Details:

  • Clearly relay incident details to emergency services.

  • Report the incident according to workplace or site protocols.

  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of information in line with policies.

 

Review the Incident:

  • Be aware of potential psychological impacts on yourself and other responders; seek support if necessary.

  • Participate in a review of the first aid response.

Pathways
​

Students who complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment. Upon completion of this unit of competency, employment pathways include possible job titles such as first aider.

Students completing HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will be able to take further courses in first aid. These may include HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting.

Students must complete refresher courses every 12 months as the Australian Resuscitation Council mandates.
